UDC Codes
Businesses and residents must navigate through many draconian codes/rules. Mark has experienced these draconian codes/rules impact businesses and housing negatively from being a member of the Land Adjustment Board. Because of these codes we have not only problems with affordable housing, but complexity for businesses.
When elected, Mark will set the goal that one UDC code will be removed from the books per city council meeting.
Neighborhood Preservation
Recently corporate investment companies and hedge funds have been buying up single family homes across the country. We need preventative measures here in Cheyenne to prevent this from occurring. Out-of-state corporations do not have the best interest for Cheyenne; their goal is to prevent families from purchasing single family homes and charging unaffordable rental prices. Long-term impacts include more residents being forced out of their homes due to drastic increases in rent/property taxes. It also can lead to the historical buildings and traditional neighborhood characteristics to be lost. Mark would like to see an ordinance be enacted place to prevent these corporations from buying up single family homes and preserving the neighborhoods within Cheyenne to pass on to our children and grandchildren.
City Website
Presently residents and businesses have complained about the complexity and difficulty of navigating the city website.
For instance, if the licenses and permits link is clicked, you would expect to be taken to this and have a list of building permits, contractor permits, etc. Instead, it says Clerk/Licensing- It needs to be consistent. It then has a list of all possible permits- it should be broken down by contractor, events, etc., and be streamlined.
Also, it is hard to access public records for board meeting minutes and recordings. These materials need to be readily available to the public.
When elected, Mark will set the goal of having the City of Cheyenne website updated by 2026.
Snow Plowing
Residents have complained about snowplowing and road maintenance within the city. Often they are not fully plowed or treated. It has been said from previous councilmen we would have to raise taxes and fees.
Without raising taxes and fees, Mark would study and implement different options to improve snowplowing leading to decreased required road maintenance. One study would be hiring private contractors to plow and treat neighborhood residential streets. Another would be having our sanitation trucks being outfitted to plow as needed.
Enforcing The Law
Mark is a law and order candidate who firmly supports our first responders who put their lives in danger to serve and protect the public. Presently we have problems with the law not being applied equally; for instance, there are claims citations are not being issued to those illegally camping near Crow Creek. The laws/ordinances need to be applied equally.
No On Sanctuary City Status
Currently, our southern border is facing a crisis as we have an open border policy under the current administration. The problems do impact us here in Cheyenne; Denver is a sanctuary city and has amassed a massive influx of illegal immigrants. It has cost the city 25 Million Dollars, and they are being housed.
When elected, Mark will be sure an ordinance is passed that no city funds or grants will be used to house, provide services, and cater to illegal immigrants.
